About the company

Our client is a law firm.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Serve as a dependable member of a law firm's support staff, helping a partner and colleagues keep active cases on track. The work blends court document preparation, calendar and file management, and general administrative and front-office duties. It suits an adaptable, detail-minded professional who stays calm when deadlines shift.

What you'll do

  • Help a partner and fellow attorneys with case work by preparing and proofreading court papers and assembling exhibits.
  • Submit documents to state, federal and tribal courts and to administrative bodies.
  • Carry out legal research, check citations and format legal documents.
  • Assist with drafting discovery requests and work in e-discovery and document management software.
  • Track deadlines on calendars and dockets, and keep both digital and paper case files organized.
  • Arrange hearings, meetings, mediations, depositions and client consultations.
  • Take care of attorney back-office tasks such as logging billable time, reviewing draft invoices, monitoring client budgets, arranging travel and processing expenses.
  • Keep client and matter information and conflict-check records current.
  • Cover front-office duties including greeting visitors, receiving mail and keeping supplies stocked.
  • Respond quickly when urgent filing deadlines come up.

Requirements

What we're looking for

  • Roughly 3 to 5 years as a legal assistant in a law firm with a focus on litigation, though the range is flexible.
  • Solid familiarity with California and federal court e-filing practices, or the resourcefulness to look up the rules quickly.
  • Careful proofreading and a sharp eye for detail.
  • Real willingness to pitch in on clerical and office tasks, such as billing entries and draft invoice review, in addition to case work.
  • A steady, consistent employment history.
  • Ability to commute to the office at least 2 days a week.
