The Posting

About the company

Our client is a law firm.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Lead complex transactional matters from start to finish as a senior attorney, guiding deal teams and developing junior lawyers and paralegals. The position is hybrid and in-person, within a collaborative, flat team structure.

What you'll do

  • Take full ownership of tax credit and affordable housing deals from kickoff through closing, covering buying, selling, partnering and developing assets as well as layered financing.
  • Provide day-to-day direction, coaching and review to junior lawyers and paralegals working on live matters.
  • Prepare and negotiate sophisticated partnership, operating and financing documentation.
  • Partner closely with firm leadership to serve a developer client base.
  • Work with colleagues in other locations on multi-party tax credit matters.
  • Contribute to the local team's culture and ways of working as a senior presence.
  • Attend regular training sessions and share knowledge with colleagues.

Requirements

What we're looking for

  • A JD and New York bar admission, or the ability to obtain it.
  • 7 to 10 years of attorney experience, with at least the last 4 years concentrated on affordable housing and tax credit transactions.
  • A law firm background at an established firm; experience solely in-house is not a fit.
  • Deep expertise in structuring and financing tax credit deals.
  • A track record of independently leading transactions from start to finish, supported by a deal list showing your role.
  • Hands-on experience with a range of transaction types, including asset purchases and sales, joint ventures and development projects.
  • Strong skills in drafting and negotiating complex legal documents.
  • Experience supervising junior lawyers and paralegals, with the leadership ability to guide them.
  • A high-energy, collaborative style that works well in a flat, team-oriented setting.
  • Already based in the Buffalo area or with genuine ties to it, and able to work in the office Monday through Thursday.
  • Willingness to travel periodically to another office.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Bonus points

  • Background in commercial real estate, corporate transactions or tax law.
  • A strong academic record or well-regarded law school.
