About Open Standard

Open Standard is building internet-native money.

We believe that much like data moved to the cloud, dollars will move on-chain. As this transition occurs, stablecoins will become core financial infrastructure. To do that, we are building Open USD (https://ousd.xyz/). OUSD is live across Base, Ethereum, Solana, and Tempo, with Coinbase, Mastercard, Shopify, Stripe, and Visa as founding partners.

We are still very early, and the engineers joining now will shape both the product and the company.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Smart Contract Engineer to help build the on-chain and off-chain infrastructure behind Open USD.

You’ll work across smart contracts, protocol design, blockchain infrastructure, indexing, monitoring, and the systems that turn on-chain activity into reliable products.

This is not a role where you only write contracts. We care deeply about how protocols work in production: how events are indexed, how state is reconstructed, how off-chain systems respond to on-chain activity, and how we make the overall system reliable and usable at scale.

You’ll have significant ownership over architecture, implementation, security, and the technical foundations of Open Standard.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Design and build smart contracts supporting OUSD across multiple blockchains.
  • Build infrastructure around minting, burning, transfers, rewards, and other protocol functionality.
  • Design indexing and event-driven systems that reliably turn on-chain activity into usable off-chain state.
  • Build monitoring and alerting systems for critical protocol events and anomalous behavior.
  • Design systems that can handle reorgs, duplicate events, delayed events, and other realities of blockchain infrastructure.
  • Work across on-chain and off-chain systems rather than treating smart contracts in isolation.
  • Own projects from technical design through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
  • Work closely with the founding team and external partners on protocol integrations.
  • Contribute to security reviews, testing, and overall protocol architecture.

WHO YOU ARE

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with meaningful experience building blockchain systems.
  • Strong experience with Solidity and EVM-based smart contracts, or equivalent experience on other major chains.
  • Strong understanding of blockchain architecture, transaction lifecycle, cryptographic principles, and smart contract security.
  • Experience building and operating production smart contracts.
  • Experience with indexing blockchain data and building off-chain systems around on-chain protocols.
  • Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and event sourcing, including how to reconstruct and reconcile state from blockchain events.
  • Comfortable reasoning about reorgs, idempotency, eventual consistency, retries, and failure modes across on-chain and off-chain systems.
  • Strong ownership and the ability to independently drive technical decisions.
  • Able to move quickly while maintaining a very high bar for correctness and security.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience with stablecoins, DeFi, payments, trading, or financial infrastructure.
  • Experience across multiple chains, especially Ethereum/EVM and Solana.
  • Experience building indexers, data pipelines, or blockchain data infrastructure.
  • Experience with protocol monitoring, reconciliation, and production incident response.
  • Experience building developer-facing APIs or infrastructure.
  • Experience working on highly secure or financially sensitive systems.

We’re looking for someone who thinks beyond the smart contract itself. The best protocol engineers understand that what happens off-chain can be just as important as what happens on-chain.
