The role

What you'll do

  • Advise affluent families on estate planning, trusts and the transfer of wealth, including matters with complex tax considerations.
  • Take ownership of existing client relationships within a department that needs senior support right away.
  • Work closely with firm leadership to serve current clients and grow the practice.
  • Create and implement plans for blended families, special needs situations and multi-generational transfers.
  • Develop your own client base over time with firm support and origination credit.
  • Partner with colleagues in other practice groups to give clients a full-service experience.
  • Contribute to the firm's long-term leadership pipeline and succession planning.

Requirements

What we're looking for

  • 6 to 10+ years of trusts and estates experience at a sophisticated firm.
  • Background in sophisticated private client planning and intergenerational wealth matters.
  • Experience navigating sensitive family dynamics in estate matters.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active New York bar admission.
  • Strong tax knowledge applied to estate planning, including gift, estate and generation-skipping tax.
  • Ability to prepare advanced trust documents and estate planning packages.
  • Experience with estate and trust administration.
  • A warm, personable manner when handling sensitive client matters.
  • A collaborative, open-door approach with colleagues at every level and a real desire to do substantive work.
  • Ability to work in the office in New York City.

Bonus points

  • An established portable client base with $1M+ in collections.
  • LL.M. in Taxation or equivalent tax coursework.
