The Posting

We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer with strong AWS experience for our client's data platform migration project. You will lead the migration of a legacy on-premise data warehouse (Sybase IQ) to a modern AWS-based architecture, designing and building both real-time and batch data pipelines. The role combines technical leadership with hands-on engineering: you will shape the target architecture, guide the team, and deliver the solution end to end. This is not a purely advisory position.

This is a long-term contract position in a highly regulated banking environment, working fully onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the migration of a legacy data warehouse (Sybase IQ) to an AWS-based data platform.
  • Design and implement the target architecture built on Amazon S3 and Amazon Athena.
  • Build real-time data processing using AWS Lambda in Python.
  • Develop and run batch processing workloads with AWS Glue.
  • Plan and execute the data migration, including schema conversion, data validation, and source-to-target reconciliation.
  • Provide technical leadership to the data engineering team: set engineering standards, review code, and mentor engineers.
  • Work closely with architects and client stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust data solutions.
  • Ensure data quality, security, and compliance in a regulated financial-services environment.
  • Produce technical documentation: solution designs, data flows, and operating guidelines.

Work Conditions

  • Start Date: Mid-November
  • Location: Prague
  • Long-term contract-based role
  • Contact with EU LLC
  • 5+ years' experience in Data Engineering, including a lead or senior technical role.
  • Proven hands-on experience building data platforms on AWS in enterprise environments, with verifiable project references.
  • Strong experience with Amazon S3 and Amazon Athena as the core of a data lake / analytics architecture.
  • Hands-on experience developing real-time processing with AWS Lambda in Python.
  • Practical experience building batch processing pipelines with AWS Glue.
  • Experience with data warehouse migration projects (on-premise to cloud).
  • Strong Python and SQL skills.
  • Ability to lead the technical discussions and make decisions about the solution and design.
  • Have a consultancy mindset → always try to find a solution for the client
  • Excellent English, written and spoken.
  • Willingness to work fully onsite and to be occasionally flexible with working hours.

Technical Requirements

Mandatory

  • AWS: S3, Athena
  • AWS Lambda (Python) for real-time processing
  • AWS Glue for batch processing
  • Python and SQL

Nice to have

  • Sybase IQ
  • Experience in banking / financial services
  • Other AWS data services (e.g., Redshift, Step Functions, Kinesis, Lake Formation)
  • Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • CI/CD for data pipelines
