The servo domain work within a multi-disciplinary design team responsible for the design, development and testing of Actuation Systems, which ensures customer performance requirements are successfully met.

This role focusses on supplying solutions for model development of actuation systems, interacting with external customers such as the Simulation & Modelling Team and the Guidance, Control and Navigation and internal customers within the multi-functional actuation team.

You will play a key role of building the modelling capability within the team over a wide range of projects and develop cohesive strategies to encourage effective and efficient working practices. The Actuation Systems Simulation Modelling Lead requires deriving models from first principles and may be exposed to other activities within the servo role to strengthen the understanding and needs for successful project delivery.

Your role will involve defining model validation strategies, maintaining and developing skills and knowledge to support internal knowledge transfer. Ability to influence the structure, design and implementation of actuator modelling, whilst exploring the latest tools and modelling methodologies.

An additional key output of the role is to provide supported analysis of product variation with the use of Monte Carlo simulations to justify the variability of the design from contributing factors of products performance.

This will offer you an opportunity to influence the requirements and level of compliance, provide simulation studies and support the overall project deliverables through configuration management.

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Degree qualification or equivalent experience with mathematical content (e.g Control Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science)
  • Technical leadership experience
  • Strong understanding of dynamic systems and mathematical modelling, which include mechanical systems, motor and feedback systems such as sensors.
  • Experienced user of MATLAB & Simulink tools
  • Proven experience of process improvement and being a part of a continuous improvement culture
  • Strong communicator with the ability to influence, collaborate and network
  • A proven ability to validate mathematical models using real-world hardware performance data
  • Ability to generate sub-system or component requirements in support of system architecture development
  • Conduct Monte Carlo simulations to assess product performance and reliability across a range of stochastic variable and expected manufacturing tolerances
  • An ability to justify and support production test limits.
