The Posting
About the company
Our client is a law firm.
The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Manage a personal docket of insurance disputes for sophisticated business clients, from early policy review through contested proceedings. The work blends client advising, persuasive legal writing and courtroom practice, with little day-to-day oversight.
What you'll do
- Examine commercial insurance policies across multiple lines of cover and advise institutional clients on their positions.
- Work autonomously within a small boutique team, aiming for roughly 100 billable hours each month.
- Build direct relationships with corporate and technology clients early in your time at the firm.
- Guide clients on strategy for claims, decisions about when to notify insurers and considerations around buying coverage.
- Handle contested matters before state and federal trial courts, including depositions, motions and filings.
- Take each matter from intake to resolution, preparing written opinions, responses to insurer positions and demand correspondence.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active California bar admission.
- 1 to 4 years of civil litigation experience, including depositions, motions and court filings.
- Exposure to courtroom practice in both state and federal forums.
- Excellent legal writing and analytical ability, with a writing sample ready to share.
- Capacity to run your own caseload with minimal supervision.
- Ease building relationships with sophisticated corporate clients and a polished, professional manner.
- Background working with institutional or corporate clients, ideally technology companies.
- Ability to read and assess a range of commercial liability and property policies.
- Willingness to work in the office five days a week.
Bonus points
- Prior insurance coverage litigation experience.
- Experience representing policyholders.
- Experience on the insurer side with an interest in switching to policyholder work.
- Familiarity with policies covering technology and management liability risks.
