The Posting

ABOUT FIFTY YEARS

The climate is heading off a cliff. Thousands die every day of malnutrition. Pandemics put the world at risk. Technology entrepreneurship can solve these problems and many more!

We support startups working at the forefront of synthetic biology, energy, food, health care, space, construction, genomics, and many other industries. Fifty Years partners with founders in these fields to develop bold new solutions that will move humanity to the next level. And it’s working! We've backed companies like Solugen (engineering enzymes to produce industrial chemicals sustainably), Astranis (small satellites to cover the Earth in internet), Antora (thermal batteries that turn cheap renewable power into heat for heavy industry), and Nabla (an AI platform designing antibody therapeutics against previously undruggable targets).

We are looking for a Finance Manager to help build Fifty Years into what it needs to be.

THE ROLE

You'll be the second person on our finance team, working directly with Ueli, who leads finance across our funds and the management company. Together you'll own everything that touches money at Fifty Years: fund operations, the management company's books, LP reporting, audits and tax, and portfolio data.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

  • AI Agent Orchestration. We build AI tooling, shared skills for recurring finance work and expect you to extend it. If you do the same task twice, we want you itching to automate it.
  • AI Native Fund Admin Platform. We are rolling out an AI native fund administration platform and you will lead that implementation and calibration to the Fifty Years context.
  • LP reporting. Help produce quarterly reporting and capital account statements leveraging our and help improve our “Orbit” portfolio intelligence platform.
  • Portfolio data and valuations. Keep investment data, valuations, and capital activity clean and current across our funds.
  • Management company finance. Monthly close review, consolidated reporting, budget vs. actuals, and create the monthly financial update we share with the team.

WHO YOU ARE

  • 3-5+ years in fund accounting, fund administration, VC/PE finance, or audit of investment funds. More experience is welcome; we'll size the role to you. Fluent in capital calls, distributions, capital accounts, management fee calculations, and fund financial statements.
  • Detail-obsessed. You're the person who finds the misallocated expense in a 40-page NAV package, and you enjoy it.
  • A clear communicator. You can explain a capital account to someone who has never seen one.
  • A builder. You'd rather spend a day automating a workflow than repeat it manually twelve times a year. Genuine excitement about working with AI tools daily is a must; deep expertise is not.
  • An owner. When something is broken, you fix it or flag it. You never say "that's not my job."

HOW WE WORK

We take our values seriously: Founders First, No Trivial Shit, Beginner's Mind, High Empathy, Relentlessly Effective, and Happy Warriors. In practice that means every project has a clear owner, feedback is direct and immediate, we get 1% better every day, and we laugh a lot while doing serious work. You'll hear us say "why not now?" often.
