POSITION SUMMARY

The Inventory Control Specialist receives, stores, accounts for, moves, issues, packages, and ships energetic materials, ammunition, and explosives in support of Department of Defense production, testing, storage, and sustainment missions. The role works in magazines, process buildings, and outdoor explosive operating areas at CMG’s Ballinger, TX campus, operating under Defense Explosives Safety Regulation (DESR) 6055.09, DA PAM 385-64, applicable Service explosives safety publications, 27 CFR (ATF), and 49 CFR hazardous materials transportation rules.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Inventory & Material Control

• Manage receiving, inventory movements, material issuance, cycle counts, and finished goods.
• Maintain accurate inventory, locations, lot numbers, and material traceability.
• Support batch manufacturing, including material consumption, yields, scrap, and adjustments.
• Investigate inventory discrepancies and drive corrective actions.

Process & Systems Build

• Help build inventory processes, controls, and SOPs from the ground up.
• Support ERP implementation and help translate shop-floor processes into the system.
• Work closely with Supply Chain, Production, and Finance to maintain inventory accuracy.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

First 90 days

• Receiving, storage, issuance, and cycle counts running with accurate lot and location records.
• First inventory SOPs drafted and in use.

First 6–12 months

• Inventory accuracy and traceability consistently meeting target.
• Shop-floor inventory processes built into the ERP, with discrepancies investigated and resolved.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• 3+ years of inventory/materials experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with batch manufacturing and lot-controlled inventory.
• Strong ERP/MRP experience.
• Proven experience building or improving inventory systems and processes.
• Strong understanding of receiving, inventory control, production consumption, and traceability.
• Comfortable working hands-on in a fast-paced, early-stage manufacturing environment.

Preferred

• ERP implementation or process-build experience (strongly preferred).

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• On-site at CMG’s Ballinger, TX campus, working in magazines, process buildings, and outdoor explosive operating areas with direct exposure to energetic materials and ammunition.
• Requires use of PPE, extended periods of standing and walking, and the ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.
• May require shift, weekend, or on-call coverage depending on production and mission requirements.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

• Successful completion of a background check and drug screening
• Must obtain and maintain HAZMAT shipping certification
• ATF employee possessor eligibility
