This hands-on contractor role includes developing electrical control system designs, writing software, supporting project execution, and contributing to the development and implementation of NQA-1 quality assurance programs and documentation. You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams, provide technical guidance to junior engineers when appropriate, and apply sound engineering judgment throughout the project lifecycle.

Your work will span control system design, software development, design reviews, cross-functional engineering coordination, and customer interaction. You’ll contribute technical leadership through your experience in controls engineering, familiarity with applicable industry standards, and ability to work independently while integrating effectively with the broader engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and assist in leading the design and development of complex electrical control systems.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of NQA-1 quality assurance programs, procedures, and documentation.
  • Apply relevant industrial standards, including NFPA 70, NFPA 79, IEEE, and applicable nuclear quality requirements.
  • Perform electrical system design using CAD tools; AutoCAD Electrical experience preferred.
  • Select, configure, and parameterize VFDs; experience with Magnetek and Siemens drives preferred.
  • Develop PLC, HMI, and PC-based control software; Siemens platforms strongly preferred.
  • Produce clear, complete technical documentation, including specifications, operating instructions, test plans, and quality records.
  • Review design documents and quality documentation for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Collaborate with and mentor less-experienced engineers as needed.
  • Support installation and commissioning at customer sites (typically less than 10% travel; occasionally up to 25%).

Requirements

  • 7+ years of controls engineering experience.
  • Prior experience developing NQA-1 quality assurance programs, procedures, or related documentation.
  • Strong background in electrical controls design and automation software development.
  • Familiarity with applicable industrial standards and nuclear quality assurance requirements.
  • CAD experience; AutoCAD Electrical preferred.
  • Experience with Siemens PLCs, HMIs, and VFDs; Magnetek and Siemens drives preferred.
  • Ability to work independently while integrating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
