We are now looking for a Master’s thesis student to join Analytical Technologies R&D in Uppsala.

In this Master’s thesis project, you will investigate and evaluate novel approaches for characterization of chromatography resins, with particular focus on NMR-based methodologies. The work will involve experimental studies of agarose-based materials, development and optimization of measurement protocols, analysis of experimental data, and comparison with established characterization techniques.

What you’ll do:

  • Investigate and evaluate novel approaches for characterization of chromatography materials.
  • Perform experimental laboratory work using NMR and complementary analytical techniques.
  • Develop and optimize experimental methodologies and measurement protocols.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data
  • Explore suitable theoretical models
  • Compare new method concepts with existing analytical approaches.
  • Evaluate method performance, robustness, applicability, and suitability for characterization of chromatography resins.
  • Independently plan, execute, and document experiments.
  • Present results in oral presentations and in a written Master’s thesis.
  • Conduct all tasks according to Cytiva policies and guidelines.

Who you are:

  • Master’s student in physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, physics, or a related discipline.
  • Interested in physical chemistry, porous materials, and analytical characterization.
  • Curious about experimental method development and data analysis.
  • Experience with NMR, spectroscopic methods, and materials characterization is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with scientific programming, scripting, or automation of data analysis is an additional merit.
  • Structured, driven and comfortable working independently.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and reporting skills.
  • Comfortable communicating in English. Swedish is an advantage.

What the project offers:

This project provides a unique opportunity to work with advanced characterization of materials used in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. You will gain hands-on experience in analytical method development, NMR-based characterization techniques, experimental design, and data analysis while working closely with experienced scientists in an industrial R&D environment.
