The Posting

About the company

Our client is a law firm.

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Take charge of your own caseload of high-value civil defense matters, guiding each case from early pleadings through depositions and courtroom appearances. You will partner with a dedicated paralegal and have a defined route toward partnership over time.

What you'll do

  • Run an independent caseload of significant bodily injury and related civil defense matters for insurers and commercial clients.
  • Prepare for and conduct testimony sessions with lay witnesses, experts and company designees, both defending and examining, in state and federal courts in Texas.
  • Write and answer pretrial motions and written discovery with a thoughtful, assertive strategy.
  • Argue positions before the court at hearings and other proceedings.
  • Partner with an assigned paralegal to develop well-built defenses while keeping client costs sensible.
  • Record all billable time promptly and completely every week, and meet the firm's billing expectations.
  • Advance along the firm's established ladder toward ownership.

Requirements

What we're looking for

  • Between 2 and 6 years of civil litigation experience on the defense side of injury claims, with 3 to 4 years being ideal, and readiness to manage a caseload immediately.
  • A law degree from an accredited school.
  • A current Texas bar license in good standing.
  • Hands-on experience preparing and handling witness depositions, including experts and corporate representatives.
  • Experience writing motions and arguing them in state or federal court.
  • Ability to manage written discovery from start to finish without close oversight.
  • A history of managing large-exposure matters, including serious injury cases with policy limits of $1M or more.
  • Confident courtroom presence and advocacy at hearings.
  • Dependable, contemporaneous time recording habits and strong billing discipline.
  • A self-directed, honest and collegial approach that needs little supervision.
  • An entrepreneurial outlook and interest in building a long-term career at one firm.
  • Willingness to work on-site full-time for the first 6 months.
  • A writing sample provided with your application.

Bonus points

  • Background in product liability or construction defect litigation.
  • Familiarity with insurer reporting requirements and litigation guidelines.
