The Posting

[What the role is]

As the built environment becomes more complex, architecture is increasingly human-centred, technology-enabled, sustainable and responsive to changing social and environmental needs.
We are looking for an architect or architectural designer with a strong background in Architecture or a related Built Environment discipline who sees architecture as part of a broader system of people, place, technology and experience.
In this role, you will shape the next generation of architectural designers through teaching, curriculum development, mentorship, industry collaboration and applied projects. You will bring industry expertise to the Diploma in Architecture, helping students integrate design thinking, speculative design, emerging technologies, sustainability and project delivery to create relevant and future-ready built environments.

[What you will be working on]

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct lessons and develop curriculum, learning resources and assessments in architectural design, covering design research, design thinking, ideation, visualisation, spatial planning, design development, documentation and presentation.
  • Guide students in applying architectural design principles, user-centred thinking, sustainability, materiality and building technologies within an integrated design process.
  • Bring professional practice and Built Environment expertise into learning experiences, helping students connect design intent with technical resolution, constructability and project delivery.
  • Mentor and supervise students through design studios, industry projects, exhibitions, competitions and multidisciplinary collaborations.
  • Introduce and apply emerging practices such as speculative design, generative and parametric design, Generative AI, Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and Common Data Environments (CDE) where relevant to teaching and projects.
  • Lead or support industry collaborations, consultancy projects and applied research initiatives related to architecture, design innovation and emerging technologies.
  • Develop and evaluate curriculum, learning activities and assessments to ensure alignment with evolving professional practices, educational needs and future industry trends.
  • Build and sustain strategic industry partnerships to support applied projects, internships, consultancy opportunities, CET initiatives and graduate employability.
  • Support course management, academic administration, student recruitment, outreach activities, school committees and school-wide strategic initiatives.
  • Develop, deliver and support Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes and industry capability development initiatives related to architecture, the Built Environment and emerging design practices.

[What we are looking for]

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualification in Architecture or a related Built Environment discipline, with at least 5 years of relevant industry experience preferred.
  • Strong industry portfolio demonstrating architectural design capability and successful project development or delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience in the end-to-end architectural design process, including research, concept development, spatial planning, design development, documentation and presentation.
  • Strong understanding of architectural design principles, sustainability, materiality, building technologies and construction considerations.
  • Ability to connect design intent with technical development and integrated project delivery.
  • Awareness or experience in one or more emerging areas, such as speculative design, generative or parametric design using Rhino or equivalent, Generative AI in the design process, VDC or CDE.
  • Passion for education, mentoring and nurturing the next generation of architectural designers.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, presentation and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring, coaching, training or leading design teams will be an advantage.
