Senior Bankruptcy Attorney

ABOUT THE ROLE

A boutique law firm is seeking a senior attorney to lead and grow its bankruptcy and restructuring practice. This role combines a portable client practice with advising investment funds on troubled portfolio companies and debt-side matters.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Lead the bankruptcy and restructuring practice and develop its work alongside the firm's existing client teams.
• Advise investment funds on debt-side restructuring and workouts involving troubled portfolio companies.
• Handle both in-court bankruptcy matters and out-of-court restructurings.
• Manage approximately 300 to 400 hours annually of firm-generated bankruptcy work in addition to your portable practice.
• Mentor and direct a junior associate with bankruptcy experience.
• Continue developing your own client relationships and book of business on a supportive platform.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• At least 15 years of experience in bankruptcy, restructuring, and debtor-creditor matters.
• A portable bankruptcy and restructuring practice generating approximately $1 million to $1.5 million in annual collections.
• Substantial experience with both in-court bankruptcy proceedings and out-of-court workouts and restructurings.
• Corporate restructuring and debt-side advisory experience, including work with investment funds on troubled portfolio companies.
• A track record of originating and managing client relationships, with an entrepreneurial approach to growing a practice.
• Ability to lead a practice area, collaborate in a boutique firm environment, and mentor junior attorneys.
• J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in New York.
• Stable work history; prior large law firm experience is preferred.
• Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Base salary: $250,000 to $300,000 annually, with potential for equity partnership and additional compensation upside. Visa sponsorship is not available.

LOCATION

Hybrid, based in New York, New York, with an expectation of approximately three days per week in the office.
