With offices in New York and South Carolina, we help people with complex tax needs. We are seeking an experienced tax professional to join our growing tax practice.

This position will involve managing a diverse portfolio of closely held businesses and high-net-worth individuals across a variety of industries. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax compliance and planning, experience managing client relationships, and the ability to oversee multiple engagements with limited supervision.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working directly with clients, reviewing complex tax returns, and collaborating with partners and staff to deliver quality tax and advisory services.

Responsibilities

  • Review federal, state, and local tax returns, including complex individual and business returns.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, providing year-round tax planning and advisory services.
  • Review client financial statements, books and records, and tax workpapers to identify tax adjustments, compliance issues, and planning opportunities.
  • Oversee tax preparation and review workflows, including coordination with internal staff and outsourced preparation teams.
  • Manage engagement deadlines, budgets, workflow, and outstanding client information.
  • Supervise, review, and develop staff accountants and senior tax professionals.
  • Research and resolve federal, state, and local tax matters.
  • Assist clients with IRS and state tax notices, examinations, and correspondence.
  • Advise clients on business structure, tax-efficient transactions, estimated payments, and other planning opportunities.
  • Identify additional service opportunities and work closely with partners on client needs.
  • Contribute to improvements in tax processes, technology utilization, and overall client service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation preferred.
  • 5+ years of public accounting tax experience, with consideration given to candidates at varying levels of experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge of partnership, S corporation, and individual taxation.
  • Experience working with closely held businesses and high-net-worth individuals.
  • Experience reviewing tax returns and managing multiple engagements.
  • Proficiency with CCH Axcess Tax and familiarity with the Wolters Kluwer suite of tax and accounting applications.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, book-to-tax adjustments, and general accounting principles.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and client relationship management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with partners and other members of the tax team.
