The Posting

At Avanade, we help organizations protect their most valuable asset: data. As the world's leading Microsoft expert, we combine the power of Microsoft technologies with deep security, privacy, and compliance expertise to help clients build trusted, resilient, and responsible digital workplaces. Our Data Protection team works at the forefront of information protection, data governance, regulatory compliance, and AI-driven security, helping organizations confidently navigate an increasingly complex threat and regulatory landscape.

In Canada, our Data Protection professionals partner with some of the country's most recognized organizations to design and implement modern security and compliance solutions using technologies such as Microsoft Purview, Microsoft 365, and Azure. Whether protecting sensitive information, enabling responsible AI adoption, or helping clients meet evolving privacy requirements, our consultants deliver meaningful business outcomes while accelerating their own professional growth.

As a Data Protection Consultant, you’ll lead the delivery of data protection and data governance solutions for Avanade clients. You’ll bring hands-on technical expertise, own project outcomes, and guide clients and junior team members through complex security and compliance initiatives.

What you’ll do

  • Lead or co-lead client engagements focused on data protection and data governance.
  • Design and implement Microsoft Purview solutions (e.g., sensitivity labeling strategies, advanced DLP policies/integrations, Purview DSPM, data lifecycle/retention controls).
  • Perform threat mapping and gap analysis across structured, unstructured, cloud, and on-premises data.
  • Facilitate client workshops and stakeholder discussions to translate requirements into scalable, secure Microsoft-based solutions.
  • Own solution design decisions, configuration, and technical documentation.
  • Provide technical mentorship to Analysts and Senior Analysts; lead workstreams or small teams.
  • Contribute to estimations, delivery planning, and risk management.
  • Support solutioning efforts, proposals, and internal capability development.
  • Build awareness and controls

.

Skills & Experience:

  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proven experience delivering security or compliance solutions in a consulting or enterprise environment.
  • Experience leading workstreams or small teams on client projects.
  • Microsoft security-related certifications strongly preferred (e.g., SC-401, SC-300, SC-200, AZ-500, MS-102, SC-100).

This is a hybrid role based in Canada and may require periodic travel to client sites for workshops, project delivery, and stakeholder engagements. Candidates must be comfortable working in both remote and client-facing environments.

To be considered for this position, candidates must:

  • Be legally authorized to work in Canada without current or future employer sponsorship.
  • Be eligible to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Reliability Status (Reliability Clearance).
  • Be willing to travel as required to support client engagements across Canada.
