The role combines courtroom advocacy with client advising, team supervision and helping the practice grow.

What you'll do

  • Set strategy for and manage high-stakes contested trust and estate cases from the first filing through final resolution.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and primary contact for important clients, strengthening those relationships over time.
  • Assume responsibility for a docket of matters handed over by the current practice leader.
  • Delegate and oversee casework by associates on active files.
  • Coach associates through regular training, feedback and performance guidance.
  • Support business development efforts and the expansion of the practice.
  • Act for fiduciaries and beneficiaries in contested trust and probate proceedings.
  • Advocate for older adults and their families in financial abuse claims.
  • Help define the direction and working culture of the group.

Requirements

What we're looking for

  • At least 8 years spent exclusively on trust and estate litigation, with an active caseload today; lawyers moving over from other practice areas will not be considered.
  • A law degree from an accredited school.
  • A current California bar license in good standing.
  • A track record of directing strategy on complex fiduciary disputes, including contested wills and elder financial abuse.
  • Deep working knowledge of probate court procedure, accounting disputes and related fiduciary remedies.
  • Leadership skills suited to growing and shaping a practice group.
  • Residence in the Bay Area and an active presence in the local litigation community.
  • A collegial, approachable working style.

Bonus points

  • Prior experience supervising or mentoring junior litigators.
