The Department

The Finance Department plays a pivotal role at the Club in supporting our long-term ambitions both on and off the pitch. Operating at the heart of a fast-paced, high-performance environment, it is the engine that keeps our Club stable and able to compete sustainably. The team provides the insight and control that underpin our decisions – from managing budgets and cash flow to overseeing player transfers and regulatory reporting.

The Role

As our Senior Finance Business Partner, you will be a trusted financial and commercial partner to senior stakeholders across the Club. Reporting to the Head of Finance – FP&A, you will build a clear understanding of departmental priorities, challenge assumptions constructively and turn financial information into practical recommendations that influence decisions.

You will lead and support departmental budgeting, forecasting and longer-term planning, working closely with FP&A and Management Accounts colleagues to deliver accurate, timely information. Your analysis will explain what is driving performance, highlight risks and opportunities, and help budget holders identify where action is needed.

From evaluating investment proposals and business cases to exploring different financial scenarios, you will help stakeholders assess costs, risks and potential returns. You will also improve reporting and analysis through better use of data and automation, while supporting sound financial controls and accountability.

For further information about the Role, please see the Role Profile.

The Person

To be considered for the role, you will be a qualified accountant or finalist (CIMA, ACCA or ACA), or bring significant relevant commercial finance experience. You will have proven experience in finance business partnering, commercial finance or management accounting, including partnering with senior stakeholders and influencing business decisions.

You will combine strong analytical skills and commercial judgement with the confidence to challenge constructively. You will be able to explain complex financial information clearly, build trusted relationships and turn your findings into actionable insight. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, confidence using Microsoft Office and the ability to prioritise under pressure are essential.

Experience within sport, entertainment or leisure would be beneficial. You will need to have a full UK driving license and the ability to travel between Villa Park, our London Office and Bodymoor Heath Training Ground. Flexibility to support matchdays, evenings, weekends and other stadium events would also be beneficial.
