Job Description

Overview

AtkinsRéalis is a leading provider of engineering, design and project management services, with offices across Ireland and a strong portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

We are seeking a Civil Design Engineer relevant years of experience to join our Water team within the Infrastructure Division. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects for Uisce Éireann (formerly Irish Water) and other clients, working across project stages from feasibility and optioneering through detailed design, procurement and construction. This role offers the opportunity to develop technical and project-delivery expertise within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, with strong prospects for career development.

Your role

  • Support the design and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects across feasibility, optioneering, preliminary design, detailed design, procurement and construction stages.
  • Prepare engineering designs, calculations, drawings, technical specifications, schedules, reports and contract documentation to the required quality standards.
  • Coordinate design inputs with multidisciplinary colleagues, clients, contractors, statutory bodies and other project stakeholders.
  • Develop a clear understanding of project scope, deliverables, contractual requirements, risks and interfaces.
  • Take ownership of delegated tasks and communicate progress, risks and technical issues clearly to the Project Manager and wider project team.
  • Support the planning, monitoring and delivery of work packages within agreed programme, budget and quality requirements.
  • Participate in site visits, surveys, design reviews and construction-stage activities, as required.
  • Apply health and safety, sustainability, quality assurance and environmental requirements throughout the design process.

About you

  • A degree in civil engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Relevant years of post-graduate experience, preferably including the design and delivery of water or wastewater infrastructure.
  • Experience preparing civil engineering designs and technical documentation, with a sound understanding of design standards and good engineering practice.
  • Awareness of common forms of contract used in Ireland, such as NEC, FIDIC, Public Works Contracts and Uisce Éireann contract documents.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and the designer’s duties within the design process.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities and deliver accurate work to agreed deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical reports and engage professionally with colleagues, clients and stakeholders.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to working in accordance with quality management systems.
  • Membership of, or eligibility for membership of, Engineers Ireland and progress towards Chartered Engineer status are desirable.
