Job Description: Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Full Stack Engineer with 5+ years of hands-on experience in Python, Django, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern cloud/container ecosystems. In this role, you will own the end-to-end design and implementation of SiFive’s developer tooling—including the Visual Studio Code Plugin and the robust backend REST APIs and microservices powering the SiFive Core Designer (SCD) platform.

This role bridges client-facing developer interfaces with scalable backend infrastructure. You will work closely with the SCD core engineering team, backend architects, and silicon design engineers to build mission-critical products used by global customers to design state-of-the-art RISC-V processors.

Responsibilities

Backend Architecture & API Development

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance, scalable RESTful APIs and backend services using Python and Django.
• Design relational database schemas, write efficient SQL queries, and optimize data access patterns for complex hardware configuration workflows.
• Integrate backend services with core IP generation engines, ensuring secure, reliable, and low-latency communication.
• Build and maintain containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes for deployment across cloud and on-premise environments.

Developer Tooling & Frontend Integration

• Design and implement rich, responsive user workflows inside the VS Code Extension ecosystem using TypeScript and modern JavaScript.
• Architect clean state management and data synchronization between frontend extension views and SCD backend APIs.
• Translate complex chip design configurations into intuitive, error-resilient user interfaces and configuration wizards.

Code Quality, DevOps & Engineering Excellence

• Write clean, maintainable, modular, and well-documented code across the entire technology stack.
• Implement end-to-end automated testing strategies (unit, integration, and contract tests) for both Python backend services and TypeScript extension layers.
• Participate in rigorous code reviews, establish architectural standards, and drive best practices in CI/CD pipelines.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Leadership

• Partner closely with product management, silicon architects, QA engineers, and customer support to refine technical specifications.
• Mentor team members on backend architecture, API contract design, and modern tooling best practices.

Requirements

• Education & Experience: BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline with 5+ years of proven production experience as a Full Stack Engineer.
• Backend Expertise: Strong hands-on proficiency in Python, Django, RESTful API architecture, and relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL/SQL).
• Frontend & Tooling Proficiency: Solid experience in TypeScript / modern JavaScript, web technologies, and asynchronous data handling.
• Containers & Systems: Working experience with containerization tools (Docker) and Linux environments.
• Engineering Rigor: Proven track record in automated testing, Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and writing maintainable production-grade code.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written English communication skills for collaborating in a globally distributed engineering team.

Nice to Have

• Hands-on experience developing VS Code Extensions or IDE language server plugins.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, S3, ECS/EKS) and orchestration via Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with hardware description languages (Verilog/Chisel), semiconductor design workflows, or the RISC-V ecosystem.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments driving sprint planning and technical roadmaps.
