About Grit Companies
Grit Companies is a fast-growing platform supporting both national D2D teams and pest control operations. Our D2D arm, Grit Marketing, operates one of the largest door-to-door sales forces in the world. Our pest control brand, Mira Home, serves thousands of homeowners across multiple markets. Underpinning both is a technology stack we've built and continue to invest in — from CRM and call center infrastructure to rep recruiting pipelines and customer communication tools.
Your New Role
The Staff Accountant owns payroll and day-to-day accounting for Grit Marketing, Mira Home, and Platform HQ. You make sure every rep and employee is paid accurately and on time, and you keep the books clean, closed in under a week, and coded so every dollar lands in the right department, account, location, and event.
Our finance and accounting team runs the payroll platform and core finance functions in a rapid growth environment. Reps and frontline employees are our core customers, and you'll work across HR, sales, and operations to support them. Your work feeds the monthly Budget vs. Actuals (BvA) reviews and location P&Ls leadership uses to run the business.
What you'll do
- Run payroll in Rippling for all three entities: timecards, overtime, proration, retro pay, deductions, and reimbursements.
- Review and process commission and bonus payouts calculated by other finance members.
- Answer pay questions from reps and frontline employees, and track each issue to resolution.
- Book and reconcile payroll in Oracle NetSuite, including accrued wages, payroll taxes, benefits, and 401(k) and HSA deductions.
- Prepare month-end close: journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare the monthly intercompany salary allocation
- Manage multi-state payroll tax filings and year-end reporting, including 941s, W-2s, and state unemployment.
- Help stand up location-level P&L reporting, including clean location coding.
- As needed, process accounts payable and expense reports, reconcile bank and credit card accounts, and support monthly BvA reviews.
- Support the external audit and tax filings with the Controller.
- Document recurring processes and use AI tools such as Claude to automate them.
First-year outcomes
- Payroll runs accurately and on time every cycle, with no pay errors that reach reps.
- Grit closes in under a week on a consistent monthly calendar.
- 2027 transactions are coded by department, account, location, and event from day one.
- Reconciliations, including payroll, are audit-ready for the FY2026 audit and each month after.
What you bring
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 2+ years of payroll or general ledger accounting, including month-end close and reconciliations.
- Working knowledge of GAAP accrual accounting.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills and close attention to detail.
- Comfort using AI tools to work faster and automate routine tasks.
- Clear, service-minded communication with reps, employees, and non-finance teams.
- Ability to keep employee pay information confidential.
Nice to have
- CPA, or progress toward it.
- Experience with commission or variable pay in a high-volume sales organization.
- Multi-entity or intercompany accounting experience.
- Experience with Oracle NetSuite and Rippling, plus exposure to Salesforce or Domo.
- Experience with audits or seasonal, high-turnover workforces.
