About the company
Our client is a law firm.
The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Own a docket of civil defense matters from the opening filings through trial readiness, working independently while partnering with a wider group of attorneys. The role includes courtroom work on your own cases and advising on questions of insurance policy coverage.
What you'll do
- Handle every phase of a case, from initial filings through evidence exchange and contested motions.
- Take and defend witness depositions.
- Prepare cases for trial and appear before the court.
- Carry your own caseload while working closely with colleagues.
- Advise on whether and how insurance policies respond to claims.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- 3 to 5 years of post-JD experience in civil defense litigation.
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- Active New Jersey bar admission.
- Track record of owning matters end to end rather than serving only as second chair.
- Experience taking and defending depositions, including experts, and the ability to say roughly how many.
- Experience running high-volume document and evidence exchange, including electronic records and disputes with opposing counsel.
- Experience appearing in court in your own right, such as conferences and oral argument.
- Skill drafting dispositive motions and briefs that a partner can file with minimal revision.
- Ability to interpret insurance policies and contracts under state law.
- Familiarity with analyzing an insurer's obligations to defend and to pay, and the related coverage correspondence.
- Some background in the insurance field, such as carrier-side defense or related liability work.
- Excellent research, writing and analytical ability.
- Ability to run several matters at once without prompting.
- Willingness to work in the office 4 days per week.
Bonus points
- Dedicated insurance coverage work, including opinions and declaratory judgment actions.
- Experience with management, professional or cyber liability lines.
- First-chair trial or arbitration experience.
