The Posting
About the company
Our client is a law firm.
The role
Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Represent companies and individuals in financial distress in court, stepping into a well-established practice and gradually taking over a departing senior lawyer's matters and client relationships. The position combines hands-on trial work with relationship management and long-range planning for the practice.
What you'll do
- Run litigation for debtor clients in bankruptcy court, from lawsuits within a case to disputed motions and hearings.
- Assume responsibility for an existing docket and the client relationships of a senior partner who is retiring.
- Work alongside the current bankruptcy lawyers and the wider litigation group.
- Nurture client relationships and seek out referrals from colleagues in other practice areas.
- Guide each matter through every phase, from early strategy to courtroom advocacy and final resolution.
- Help shape the next chapter of the practice as a future leader of the firm.
Requirements
What we're looking for
- 8 to 10+ years of experience representing debtors in bankruptcy litigation.
- Experience with adversary proceedings and contested matters.
- Experience appearing at bankruptcy court hearings.
- Strong command of the Bankruptcy Code and Rules, including debtor representation in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 cases.
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
- Active New York bar admission.
- An existing book of business: roughly $400-600K for a more junior partner profile with partner experience in the last 5 years, or $1m+ for a senior partner with more than 15 years as a partner.
- A collaborative, approachable style and comfort working across practice groups.
- Ability to manage a practice independently without heavy oversight.
- Aptitude for client stewardship and transition planning.
- Ability to work in the office full time.
- Existing authorization to work in the United States.
Bonus points
- A portable book of business in bankruptcy.
- Experience taking over or managing a retiring partner's clients.
- A record of bringing in new clients or generating business.
